Russian Arts Foundation’s “Take Five” Gala Takes over Richards of Greenwich to Honor Dave Brubeck

Dave Brubeck Gala

Held at Richard's Clothier on Greenwich Avenue, this charity event was one of a kind. The first and second floor displays were cleared away, and an enraptured audience sat up and down the grand staircase.

Tasty  hors d'oeuvres were offered before the delightful performance that highlighted guest soloists from Russian National Orchestra , along with the versatile talents of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Among the songs were excerpts from the Claude Bolling suite, originals by Chris Brubeck, ChuckLamb and most importantly tunes by father Dave Brubeck, who was being honored in absentia with the illustrious Silver Baton Award from the Russian National Orchestra. Proceeds from the evening will help fund the many programs of the Russian National Orchestra located in Moscow, and relief efforts sponsored by Jazz'd 4 Life around the world.

June 19, 2009 Benefit Concert with Dave Brubeck at Infinity Hall

The June 19 “Jazz’d 4 Life - One Moment” Benefit Concert with Dave Brubeck was a huge success in all its many aspects. Dave Brubeck, at 88, continues to inspire and transfix audiences lucky enough to hear him perform live. His quartet, made up of Randy Jones on drums, Michael Moore on bass, and Bobby Militello, sax and flute, fluidly supported each other’s talents in swinging renditions of the Duke, The Basie Band is Back in Town, and a poignant offering of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, among other tunes in the hour set. The evening ended with Brubeck’s signature song Take Five.
